Chairman Blount, we are curious. We assume each member of Council is sworn in at the beginning of each term, is that correct? If so, could you supply the wording of or a link to the wording of the oath? Thanks!

It’s actually only the ones elected during that cycle. In accordance with Article VI, Section 5 of the South Carolina Constitution, newly inducted Greenville County Council members take the following oath before assuming their duties:

“I do solemnly swear that I am duly qualified, according to the Constitution of this State, to exercise the duties of the office to which I have been elected, and that I will, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties thereof, and preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of this State and of the United States. So help me God.”
