According to SC.Gov PSC page, much of the Upstate has no PSC representation. Why is that?

The Public Service Commission (PSC) of South Carolina is structured so that commissioners represent seven districts across the state, each encompassing multiple counties. While it may appear that some areas, like parts of the Upstate, have less visible representation, every district does have a commissioner assigned. Sometimes, the boundaries of these districts don’t perfectly align with public perceptions of regional divisions, leading to the misconception that certain areas are underrepresented. Every commissioner is SUPPOSED to be responsible for overseeing utility regulation and public services within their district, and they are accessible to residents for questions or concerns.

District 4, which is the district covering your constituents, according to the psc.sc.gov link I attached shows "Currently Vacant". How long & why is that true?

I want to clarify that this matter regarding District 4 is a state-level issue. As a County Councilman, this is not something I would typically have any direct knowledge of unless I specifically sought out the information.

However, I can tell you that vacancies on the Public Service Commission (PSC) are often due to factors like term expirations, resignations, or delays in appointing new commissioners. The appointment of a commissioner is handled by the state legislature, not by local government. Our State Representative or Senator, who are directly involved in these processes, would hopefully have the info but be the only ones who could correct the vacancy.

Once the disaster recovery efforts settle down, I’d be happy to help look into it further and see what I can find out!

I understand, that's why I brought it up. People in your position have avenues available to you that most of us don't so theoretically you should be able to obtain information. I am curious if that vacancy existed when the PSC approved the most recent rate increases.

Thanks for your comment & attention.

While I'm jumping the gun big-time, I want to put the thought out there for future use. A few days ago SC Governor stated a reason for power lines not being buried is the cost. Once the dust has settled, or the mud has dried, is it possible County Council can obtain the true cost, for Duke Energy, to repair all of the damage to their 19th century technology, aka power poles? At the end of all this, using poles is the obvious weak link.
