Benton... The first day I met you at the music festival in Simpsonville a few years back when I was support staff ... I knew you were a man of Honesty. I still have the red guitar pick I charged you to get into the performer's area (Lol) ...... I appreciate the help you gave me during the rezoning of the Poinsett Highway property as well as making "We the People" aware of what the Council is doing... You have Our Family's support....The Best always to you and the Family

Your humility will be a plus in your role as Council Chair and I believe the public and council body will appreciate that tremendously, Benton! The personal story you shared shows also that you have the requisite courage to take on that new – and vocal-- leadership role, including using parliamentary procedures in less formal, but more effective ways to encourage principled deliberation. (That’s been sorely lacking…) Mostly, I am encouraged that in your personal life you’ve discovered that “what-lies-beyond” is not defined by your current circumstances…I pray that the newly constituted Greenville County Council discovers this too, since it is free to liberate itself from dysfunctional approaches of the past and adopt new governance and decision-making processes that are forward thinking and citizen-centric. We who are engaged as citizens are hopeful and supportive! A happy and healthy New Year to all!!!
