In my short 18 months on County Council, I have seen the temptation for quick dramatic changes on all sides. However, a slow and steady approach often proves more effective for long-term success and stability. Here's why taking the time to make well-informed decisions is always top priority for me.

• A thoughtful approach allows council members to gather and evaluate all necessary information, ensuring decisions are based on a thorough understanding of potential impacts and community needs.

• By taking time to consult with residents and experts, councils can make more balanced decisions that reflect diverse perspectives. This collaboration often leads to more robust solutions and greater community support.

• Rapid changes can bring unforeseen problems. A careful, methodical approach helps identify potential issues early and develop strategies to address them, reducing the risk of negative outcomes.

• Well-considered decisions are more likely to endure and align with long-term goals. This approach avoids the pitfalls of short-term thinking and sets a stable foundation for future progress.

To avoid being swayed by emotional reactions in the high-pressure environment of local politics, consider a clear decision-making framework that guides actions and ensures consistency. Focus on data and facts rather than emotions, and allow time for reflection before finalizing decisions. Foster open communication within the Council and more importantly with the community to manage expectations and build trust. Lastly, maintain transparency in the decision-making process to reinforce accountability and public confidence.

A slow and steady approach to decision-making in County Government not only addresses immediate needs but also supports sustainable, positive change for the community.
